Here’s a news story from MIT about the development of a new type of error correcting codes. Essentially, the system will create one long codeword, break it into shorter sections, and send each section sequentially until the receiving device has enough of the codeword to decode the message.

Dean Vincent Poor has already praised the  new EEC to be “inherently practical”, saying that “In fact, the paper not only develops the theory and analysis of such codes but also provides specific examples of practical constructions.”
